Gravytrain Penalty shoot out continued…

September 18, 2008

The Ball didn’t come down on the pitch, let’s just leave it at that…. No actually lets expand on that slightly…. The Ball came down just over the other side of the A3.

At first we were all shocked. We knew he couldn’t kick a ball to save his life but this was just ridiculous! The immediate shock soon turned into laughter, laughter so loud it could be heard be heard from the other side of the A3.

The penalty shoot out was called off for fear of the remaining participants being put off by the actions of one player.

A tight affair with some old boys

December 19, 2007

It was that time of the week again, the sun had died and the evening chill had descended onto the rubber crumb. 7 Brave warriors had braved the long journey to the depths of Raynes Park, the expectation of the battle ahead pumping warm blood through their veins.  Kitted up and ready, a cloud of confidence lingered over the gravytrain  team.

A changed line up for the first game of the season saw two multi million pound youngsters brought in to add attacking flare to the gravy’s solid spine; Trevor ‘John Arne’ Symons and Nick ‘Bomber’ Whiting. Bookham Old Boys were the opponents, worthy adversaries for the gravytrain warriors, a strong and organised outfit; this would not be an easy game! The cloud of confidence that had shadowed gravytrain was shattered after just 5 minutes when the defence was caught napping and the old boys striker was let clean through.  Not even the mighty George could stop the effort, as the ball was slid into the net over the frozen surface.

Gravytrain pushed forward in search of the equaliser but were a yard of the pace, stray passes and missed tackles plagued the gravy’s, and 15minutes in they were 2 down. Heads visibly dropped and Bookham started to dominate the possession and control the play, passing back to their keeper at every opportunity. A number of fine saves from George kept Gravytrain in the game.  The gravy’s hung on till half time two goals to the bad. Something had to change in the second half.

And it did!

A different side came out for the second half, a more determined side. Rocco ‘Maradonna’ Pietosi and Kevin ‘The Power’ Taylor held strong at the back, squashing any counter attacks, allowing the other players to press forward. Will Martinez had an early effort saved by the Old Boys on form keeper after good link up play and Trev also had a number of shots saved. The football being played in the second half by Gravytrain was a different class.  Ryan ‘Super Frank’ Copeland spraying quick passes to the wings and breaking forward well, led to some good nice one touch football and clever through balls which saw the keeper tested from all angles! But still no breakthrough. It would take something special to beat the keeper or a bit of luck, sadly we could not muster either. Gravytrain played Bookham off the park in the second half; they did not have one decent attempt on goal. Credit to the defence and the goalkeeper for that.  It just wasn’t our day.

Final Score:  Bookham Old Boys 2-0 Gravytrain

Gravytrain walked off the pitch dejected by the loss, but knowing that the second half performance was strong. Excited by the knowledge that on that form anything is possible in this league. It would be hard to choose a man of the match from the second half, everyone showed a great commitment and individual brilliance all over the park.

Kevin back for Gravytrain Limited fc

September 17, 2007

It’s been several weeks now and Gravytrain Limited fc are still looking to join a competetive league! No major changes to report since the last post. Kevin should be coming back this week after suffering a knee injury a while back. It looks like the injury has finally healed and last night it certainly looked like Kevin had fully recovered when he showed up for training.

One of his Gravytrain Limited fc colleagues had this to say:

Gravytrain Limited Nick:  ”Kevin looks better than ever before! We think his leg has been out of alignment all his life and the latest injury, although painful, has actually done him a favour by knocking his leg back into alignment.”

Reporter: “What does this mean for Kevin’s footballing career?”

Gravytrain Limited Nick: “Well, I guess this will mean his shots will be on target from now on.”

New players and a surprise return…

August 7, 2007

Back from injury is 1st team goalkeeper George who was out due to a broken finger. He has only allowed two weeks for the break to heal! Gravytrain Limited contacted the team doctor to verify this and were astounded at this great news. The doctor added that as George was from Scotland his bones were made from stronger stuff and also healed quicker. Aparently Scotish bones heal 60% faster than that of an Englishman.

Also playing this week is Nick’s younger brother (looks older though) , who is making his second appearance for Gravytrain Limited FC, and a one of Alex’s friends who we are still waiting to for details of.

Last week it didn’t seem possible but Gravytrain Limited has muscled on and found enough players to represent the team. More information about how the team got on and inside gossip to follow!

Steve Slade makes debut goalkeeper appearance with Gravytrain Limited

August 1, 2007

Steve Slade got earnt his place back in the team with a remarkable performance in goal for Gravytrain Limited. The ”loose-cannon left-back” had gone AWOL a few days ago but was found asleep on a park bench grasping a can of special brew,  in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Despite his inability to see he agreed to play in goal for Gravytrain Limited.

The match started off well with a few good early saves from Steve and a few chances at the other end. Sadly the Gravytrain team went one – nil down despite dominating most of the play. The opponents, Limited FC, had Petr Cech in goal which made it difficult to score, but finally 10 mins in Alex scored a blinder of a goal when he nutmegged the entire team (including a few Gravytrain Limited teammates) to get us on score sheet.  The match was very close but if it had not been for both keepers being on form it would have turned into an absolute goal fest. End score: Gravytrain Limited 4 – Limited FC 8.

We put the Limited in Gravytrain Limited FC!

July 30, 2007

Gravytrain Limited FC commented on their growing concern surrounding their lack of fit players. Assistant manager Rich Bunce had this to say: “We are very concerned”.

Due to recent injury, Kevin and Andrew are unable to play – Andrew has torn a ligament in his ankle and Kevin forgot to take his cod-liver oil tablets. Theses two semi-crucial players could be out for a further 3 weeks. Also on the list of unavailable players is Simon Gersh who is still waiting for his work permit to arrive despite numerous attempts by Gravytrain Limited  FC to contact the Kazakhstani company that own him; Nick L who is out on location shooting ‘Fist Of Fury 2′; And finally, Steve Slade who is currently AWOL but rumours say he has a note.

This week Gravytrain Limited  have a total of 4 players available and are in need of a least 1 more to complete their 5-a-side team. Will they have to forfeit the game? Stay glued to the official Gravytrain Limited  FC blog site for further updates!

Gravytrain limited sack injured Andrew

July 27, 2007

Following last week’s shock injury to top Gravytrain Limited  fc goalkeeper, George McGrant, the team was struck another blow to their squad. Andrew Willis, Gravytrain Limited FC most prolific waterbottle carrier tore the ligament in his finger when he was ordered to code faster. Sources say that it was the immense pressure of having to perform on match day for Gravytrain Limited FC coupled with the physical struggle of increasing the pace of coding that brought about his injury. Andrew, who was looking forward to representing his country at the waterbottle carrying olympics had this to say: ”You’d better scatter and run! the battle’s lost and not won”. We’re not sure exactly what Andrew was referring to but he was listening to Iron Maiden on his ipod at the time of the statement.

Gravytrain Limited  FC refused to comment on the injury that befell Señor Willis for a few days. Earlier today they gave this press release: “Gravytrain Limited FC has had no choice but to dismiss the Iron maiden loving bottle carrier due to his poor sense of style. ” We asked the chairman, Mr K Tayla, if he could elaborate…. He simply said: “Did you see what he was wearing!?” – We believe that the Gravytrain Limited  FC chairman was referring to the monocle he wore to the press conference.

gravytrain limited FC – 24/07/07

July 25, 2007

Unfortunately this week the Gravytrain Limited  fc football match was cancelled due to the recent bad weather. The opposition, Oxford-under-thames United, were unable to attend the match and were reported to have drowned their sorrows at the nearest watering hole: The Soaked Bishop. The opposition had allegedly taken the day off to discuss tactics before the match. The captain, Marti Pellow, looked out of the first floor window of the local pub and it suddenly dawned on him that his dreams of playing against the legendary Gravytrain Limited FC had been washed up.
